City Care removes barriers by including utilities in the rent, providing furnishings, and creating a safety net of support to ensure households remain stably housed as they work on their struggles with things like chemical dependency, employment and mental health issues.
In addition to safe, clean, affordable housing, City Care provides on-site case management and supportive services to assist residents with life skills, substance abuse relapse prevention, employment and other services needed to maintain housing. The program takes a holistic approach to helping each person achieve his full potential, and we seek to empower people through teamwork, opportunities for leadership and a supportive community environment.
Focusing on one of the most impoverished areas of Oklahoma City, our goal is to be an asset to the community. We encourage residents to accept responsibility for, and take pride in, theircommunity. Residents are encouraged to participate in the neighborhood association, neighborhood watch patrol and beautification projects.
Pershing Center Transitional Housing
When clients have a desire to change their lives, Pershing Center transitional housing becomes that key to a brighter future. Residents pay rent based on their income and may stay in the program for up to 24 months. Pershing Center, is a 60-unit facility that includes a central community area with a multi-media room, computer lab, library, kitchen, dining hall, clothes closet and offices.
Westlawn Gardens Permanent Housing and Affordable Housing
City Care’s Westlawn Gardens Permanent Housing consists of a 24-unit permanent supportive housing project that provides much-needed housing for low-income families with a disability and 18 units in the Westlawn Gardens Affordable Housing open to all low income households. City Care strives to offer an environment with support that encourages individuals to achieve long-term success. In addition, dozens of chronically homeless have been housed through City Care participation in the national 100,000 Homes campaign and the Journey Home OKC program.
Westlawn Gardens “Homeless to Homeowner”
City Care also has a program which allows formerly homeless families to purchase their home and become homeowners.
Future development plans for the Westlawn Gardens neighborhood include additional single-family homes and duplexes.
